Borealis, a leading supplier of innovative plastic solutions, and Paper Republic, a Vienna-based stationery brand, have teamed up in a social business initiative called "mask republic" to jointly produce sustainable and reusable face masks.

Thanks to a reliable network of partners in the value chain, local and regional government organizations and NGOs, "mask republic" will deliver face masks throughout Austria. Tests in Borealis' laboratory facilities show that "mask republic" face masks provide up to four times more effective filtration than conventional hand-sewn face masks. Since washing the masks does not affect the filtration effectiveness, they are perfectly washable and reusable, thus contributing to waste reduction.

Through its partnership with "mask republic", Borealis offers filter media fabrics made from its new polypropylene (PP) resin for meltblown applications: Borealis HL912FB.
