Association of Chemistry Teachers Austria – Promoting Chemistry in schools
OMV is partnering with the Association of Chemistry Teachers Austria (VCÖ) because we are convinced that innovation and sustainable solutions in chemistry are crucial for the future. With our support, we want to motivate young people to develop creative solutions to problems and show how research in chemistry can contribute to environmentally friendly and safe processes. In this way, we specifically promote the skills development of the next generation and contribute to a more sustainable world. Two projects of the VCÖ are crucial for us: The “Green Chemistry” school competition and the “Chemietage”, a teacher development event.

The “Green Chemistry” competition is one of the largest school chemistry competitions in Austria and is organized by the Austrian Association of Chemistry Teachers (VCÖ). In 2025 organized for the 18th time, schools throughout Austria were invited to take part in experiments and projects on the topics of sustainability, circular economy, resource conservation, energy efficiency and safety, more than 250 schools participated. The focus is on independent experimentation by the pupils in order to encourage the spirit of research and emphasize the importance of practical science.
The “Chemietage” are a key event in the teacher development schedule of the Association of Chemistry Teachers Austria. OMV is proud to be a partner and support the teachers to nurture and inspire the next generation of scientists by hosting various educational activities. From the University of Vienna to our Refinery Schwechat, we provided insights on several topics including ReOil®, SAF, Co-Processing, Green Hydrogen, as well as a virtual refinery tour led by our apprentices. Because progress is built through collaboration, shared passion and the drive to keep learning.
