Energy efficiency

Under OMV’s Strategy 2030, OMV has established interim climate targets and identified operational and energy efficiency as one of the key decarbonization levers being implemented through its Climate Transition Plan, with defined actions until 2030.

Beyond 2030, future actions and investment decisions will be reviewed and updated as technologies, markets, and regulatory requirements evolve as part of OMV’s pathway towards its net-zero ambition for 2050. 

Over the past decade, OMV has implemented ISO 50001-certified energy management systems at all its refineries. This integration supports the identification and implementation of efficiency measures in daily operations across all business areas and can contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. 

Energy efficiency projects include modernizing assets and optimizing processes, supported by digitalization measures and new technologies, where appropriate. 

Energy efficiency is also addressed through legislation in the different countries where OMV operates. For instance, the EU Energy Efficiency Directive requires all member states to use energy more efficiently at all stages of the energy chain, from transformation and distribution to final consumption. For OMV, this means investing in products, technologies, and infrastructure that can support a more energy-efficient mobility sector and contribute to reducing the energy intensity of transport.
