Our focus on health, safety, security, and environment (HSSE) is central to our approach to responsible business. HSSE is an integral part of our transformation. And all of us – employees, partners, and contractors – see HSSE as an integral part of our daily work.
Our HSSE vision is “Committed to Zero Harm – Protect People, Environment, and Assets.” – a simple statement expressing that we do business responsibly and protect what we care for.
We bring this vision to life by prioritizing the physical and mental wellbeing of our colleagues and everyone we work with. We safeguard the integrity and operation of our sites, assets, and processes while keeping the wellbeing of the planet in mind. We use state-of-the-art approaches and technologies to achieve our goals while never deviating from our high standards. We’re supporting our transformation journey with its purpose of re-inventing essentials for sustainable living.
Health
Our people are our most valuable asset, and their health – both physical and mental – is key to our success. To ensure all our employees have access to a high standard of healthcare, we’ve established a Group-wide standard. It includes preventive initiatives, such as targeted health promotion campaigns, a systematic approach to managing health risks, and access to medical care when needed.
Our goal is to maintain the safest possible work environment for both employees and contractors, and we will do everything possible to avoid work-related fatalities. In our industry it is crucial that everyone contributes to our goal of zero incidents. Safe behavior and caring for yourself and others are important aspects of our safety culture.
We support a safe transition toward a circular economy while keeping a close eye on today’s risks and opportunities. To achieve this, we apply the same minimum safety requirements across all current and future operating sites. By maintaining our low process safety event rate, we aim to remain at the top of the industry.
Occupational and Process Safety
Security
We prevent or mitigate external threats arising from intentional and malicious actions. Our focus is on protecting our employees, company, operations, and infrastructure through accurate and timely information.
In the event of an emergency or crisis, we have detailed plans and rehearsed procedures in place to help us respond effectively and recover quickly.
We are mindful of people and nature and respect the limits of Planet Earth (planetary boundaries).
To achieve this, we aim to reduce our impact on the environment to levels no longer considered harmful and to become climate neutral by 2050. We work to prevent leaks and improve the air quality around our sites. We continue to reduce freshwater withdrawals and improve wastewater quality. We are taking steps to ensure that our operations that produce or handle plastics comply with OCS standards (Operation Clean Sweep is an international program designed to prevent plastic pollution and help keep plastics out of the marine environment). We want to conserve and restore biodiversity and ecosystems in alignment with the post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework. Clearly defined roadmaps will guide the adoption low-environmental-impact technologies.
