What Are Synthetic Fuels?
Synthetic fuels, often referred to as eFuels, are produced by combining renewable hydrogen, generated using renewable electricity, with captured CO₂ from primarily from biogenic CO₂ and other renewable carbon streams. The resulting molecules can be used in existing engines, infrastructure, and supply chains, enabling their use within today's energy and transport systems. As demand for lower-carbon fuels grows, synthetic fuels are expected to play an increasingly important role alongside bio-based and circular solutions.
