Access to basic services
We aim to support access to selected basic services, such as health care, clean water, electricity, food access, and infrastructure, in communities where we operate.
These activities are linked to topics addressed by several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including:
- SDG 1: No Poverty
- SDG 2: Zero Hunger
- SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being
- SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation
- SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy
Projects
Our projects in this area focus primarily on supporting health and wellbeing-related initiatives in selected communities where we operate. The examples below show how this approach is put into practice.
Emergency Aid for the Austrian Red Cross
In recent years, emergency services in Austria faced significant challenges, with the Austrian Red Cross playing an important role in emergency response and the provision of support services across the country. To help support its mobility, we donated fuel cards to the Austrian Red Cross.
This initiative is linked to topics addressed by SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being).
Die Tafel Österreich
Die Tafel Österreich is an Austrian social and environmental association that works to provide food support for people in need and reduce food waste.
We partner with Die Tafel Österreich to support the redistribution of surplus food to people affected by poverty. Our collaboration includes volunteering opportunities for OMV employees, who help prepare meals for children in need and support food deliveries. Deliveries are made using OMV-branded compressed natural gas trucks.
This partnership supports food redistribution and resource-use related activities and is linked to topics addressed by SDG 1 (No Poverty) and SDG 2 (Zero Hunger).
Ōpunake Community Pools
The Ōpunake Community Pools in Taranaki, New Zealand, are a venue for swimming lessons, exercise classes, school outings, and community events. Our support helps cover operational costs, allowing the pools to remain open for longer periods each year and continue offering swim safety services, including free lessons for children in need.
This project is linked to topics addressed by SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being).
Otupaiia Marine Park Development
Otupaiia Marine Park in Waitara, New Zealand, is a coastal area used by the local community for fishing, recreation, and access to the coast and river. New Plymouth District Council and Te Kōwhatu Tū Moana Trust, in collaboration with Waitara residents and local Māori subtribes, are leading a project to renew the park. As the park is located near the Pohokura gas field, we contributed to the community project by funding the construction of a bike pump track for local users and visitors.
This project supports community recreation and is linked to topics addressed by SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being).
Waimanako Support Hub
The Waimanako Support Hub in Taranaki, New Zealand, provides community offerings such as support for whānau (families), a creative hub, support groups, workshops, life coaching, and outreach support. We supported the expansion of the Hub by funding the lease and renovation of additional premises, helping it increase its capacity to serve people in the Taranaki community.
This project supports community services and is linked to topics addressed by SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being).
Bellyful Frozen Meals
Bellyful is a New Zealand organization that cooks and delivers meals to families with babies or young children who need support. Its community-based approach provides practical help to families who may not have access to similar support networks.
With 25 branches across New Zealand, Bellyful brings together families, volunteers, local businesses, and supporters to create a strong sense of community.
Our work with Bellyful is linked to topics addressed by SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) and SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being).
On The House
On the House is a New Zealand charitable trust that rescues surplus food and redistributes it to people in need across the Taranaki community. By redistributing surplus food, the organization supports food access and help reduce food waste.
This initiative is linked to topics addressed by SDG 2 (Zero Hunger).
Flourish Taranaki
Flourish Taranaki is a charitable community collaboration that helps Taranaki whānau (families) access parenting-related resources and support. Our partnership with Flourish Taranaki helps fund a part-time administration assistant, supporting the day-to-day operation of its activities and helping the organization make its services available to more families across the community.
This project supports community services and is linked to topics addressed by SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being).
CAPE 10 - House of good hope
The House is a hub for community connection and social development. Opened in 2020 in Vienna, it is a space where different social groups can come together to learn from and support one another. CAPE 10 is connected to the charitable CAPE 10 Foundation, alongside the Max & Lara project and the emergency aid project Initiative for sick and poor children.
CAPE 10 focuses on health and poverty-related social issues. As one of CAPE 10’s partners, we supported the construction and equipment of a low-threshold medical and social clinic for uninsured women and children.
In 2024, around 400 pupils from Vienna neighborhood secondary schools participated in the first large-scale Innovation Summit and explored aspects of the topic “Our future.” The Innovation Summit focuses on youth, education, and social integration.
This partnership also creates opportunities for OMV employees to engage in social volunteering.
This project supports community services and is linked to topics addressed by SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being).
Improving Social Services in Libya
Since 2017, we have worked with other oil companies to support the improvement of social services for local communities in Libya. Our activities focus on two regions: Sirte and Murzuq. In the Sirte region, we collaborate with the National Oil Corporation (NOC). In the Murzuq region, our work is carried out in partnership with NOC, Repsol, Equinor, and Total, and aims to help local municipalities improve access to services such as health, education, water, and sanitation.
This initiative is linked to topics addressed by several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation).
Together from Day One & First Step to Health
Through the OMV Petrom Foundation, we support early health initiatives in Romania. Through the “Together from Day One” program, the foundation invested EUR 1 million to equip 45 maternity wards and neonatal units across 28 counties. The initiative has supported neonatal care for more than 20,000 newborns.
The foundation also launched the “First Step to Health” project, which equipped 39 family practitioners’ offices to provide prenatal care services to 7,000 pregnant women. In addition, the foundation invested EUR 1.58 million in the Baby Box program, which provides support and health information to 2,713 mothers and newborns in vulnerable situations.
These initiatives support access to health-related services for vulnerable groups and are linked to topics addressed by SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being).
