Building the OMV Innovation Hub Schwechat (“Hub”) is a key milestone for OMV in implementing its innovation strategy. The progress of construction is at around 55 percent, with the project proceeding according to plan and completion and commissioning scheduled for the first half of 2027. The new hub will provide the critical infrastructure to enable and accelerate technological developments efficiently and to turn them from laboratory scale into industrial applications. It will be a key contribution to the OMV Strategy 2030 and to the company's transformation toward climate neutrality. At this site, everyday essentials are being re-invented for shaping the future of leading-edge energy sources.

Alfred Stern, Chairman of the Executive Board and CEO of OMV: “The hub forms the foundation for successful innovation. With this infrastructure, we are creating the opportunity to consistently develop technologies along our value chain, from the lab and pilot plants to industrial scale, and to integrate them directly into OMV production facilities. We are paving the way for the technology of tomorrow and are clearly committed to Austria as a location for innovation. We are sending a clear signal that we are driving our transformation with structure, focus, and strategic vision.”

With an investment of EUR 65 million and a total area of around 8,120 square meters, the project will create a state-of-the-art campus with 50 workstations, laboratories, a technical center with space for up to 15 testing facilities, pilot areas with enhanced safety standards as well as office, meeting, and event rooms. At the heart of the hub is the Group’s in-house expertise in collaboration with our customers and partners. Cross-divisional teams will work side by side to develop ideas that are guided by our Strategy 2030 and beyond, aiming to turn them into new commercially viable technologies and products.

The new, cutting-edge hub in Schwechat is the technology accelerator for OMV’s innovation program which is the framework for pooling innovation-related competencies, technologies, and partnerships throughout the Group and for developing them in a targeted manner. The hub in Schwechat is a key element in implementing this approach. The plan is to facilitate the creation of new business models – for example, in the areas of biotechnology, green hydrogen, CO₂ use, or growth driven by our own technologies – and to push new technologies that will make both a sustainable and a profitable future possible in line with OMV’s CO₂ reduction targets.
