  • Building on current capabilities to create one of the leading international oil companies (IOCs) in Asia-Pacific
  • Kuala Lumpur as a base for regional growthSapuraOMV, headquartered in Kuala Lumpur is a 50:50 joint venture between Sapura Energy Berhad and OMV Aktiengesellschaft.

Sapura Energy is a leading global integrated oil and gas operator and solutions provider, with a wide spectrum of capabilities covering exploration, development, production, rejuvenation, as well as decommissioning and abandonment.

OMV, one of Austria's largest listed Industrial companies, produces and markets oil and gas, as well as chemical products and solutions in a responsible way and develops innovative solutions for a circular economy.

In Upstream, OMV has a strong base in Romania and Austria, and a balanced international portfolio, with Russia, North Sea, Middle East & Africa and Asia-Pacific as further core regions.

The strategic partnership agreement, effective 31 January 2019, is a key milestone for both Sapura Energy and OMV, in their journey to create one of the leading independent oil and gas companies in Asia-Pacific.

A track record of safe and cost-efficient exploration, development and production plus the ‘energy for a better life’.

SapuraOMV Upstream has a strong portfolio in producing gas and condensate assets in Malaysia as well as exploration interests in Mexico, Australia and New Zealand.

The partnership has identified Malaysia as its hub to expand into Asia Pacific, and its combined strengths and expertise will pave the way for the joint venture to become a leading independent oil and gas company.

In Malaysia, PETRONAS has entrusted SapuraOMV through its operating subsidiaries to operate Blocks SK310 and jointly operate Block SK408 with Sarawak Shell.

With an 18-year operating history, SapuraOMV is recognized for its ability to add value across the exploration, development and production lifecycle through the application of advanced and cost-efficient solutions, while maintaining an excellent safety record.

SapuraOMV produced over 30 kboe/d in 2021. The company’s ambition is to reach a production of 100 kboe/d via organic growth and mergers & acquisitions within the next 5 to 8 years.

A culture of safety: Work safe, Home safe.

SapuraOMV has a reputation for its excellent safety performance – the result of a sustainable safety culture embedded through mindful leadership – and strict compliance to established safety management systems.

As of February 2022, SapuraOMV clocked more than 1,289,898 man-hours without Lost Time Injury (LTI) or Major Loss of Primary Containment (LOPC). Our last LTI was on July 19, 2021.
