Update 5

Branch office re-opened in Yemen; British contractor already released from the hospital
OMV confirms that the branch office in Sanaa, Yemen was re-opened on Saturday, October 9th. The injured British contractor who works as senior planning engineer for OMV Yemen was released from hospital and is doing well. OMV is working with authorities on the official police investigation. The company has re-enforced its travel restrictions for the country.

OMV has been active in Yemen since 2003. The country is part of OMV's core Middle East region and currently produces 20,000 boe/d from Haban oilfield in Block S2, in Central Yemen (OMV share approx. 6,500 boe/d). The company runs a branch office in Sanaa, which is currently closed. High level travel restrictions for employees are in place. Currently the company has around 300 staff in the country, thereof 55 OMV expatriates (including 16 Austrians).

No explosion at OMV Branch Office in Sanaa, Yemen
OMV confirms that there was no explosion at the OMV’s branch office in Sanaa, Yemen today. Police and authorities are currently investigating the tragic incident, which happened today at 9 am local time. The Yemeni security-guard is currently under arrest. OMV has already closed the office and is supporting local staff with counselling. The company has had no indication that the incident was politically motivated.

French contractor died, British employee seriously injured
OMV confirms, that the seriously injured employee died in a hospital in Yemen today. The contractor employee with French nationality was working for OMV as procurement officer. OMV deeply regrets this tragic loss. The other injured contractor is a British national and currently under medical treatment in a hospital in Sanaa. He works as an expert within the Branch Office. The responsible authorities and police forces are at the scene and investigate this tragic security incident which happened today at 9 am local time. OMV currently sees no political background for the action taken by the Yemeni security guard. OMV is in direct contact with the contractor companies and the embassies to provide full support.

OMV / Yemen: Security incident under control
One seriously injured, one slightly injured

OMV confirms there was a serious security incident at OMV’s Branch Office in Sanaa, Yemen today. Based on current information a security guard opened fire at OMV’s compound at 9 a.m. local time.

One employee from a contractor company was injured, another employee (contractor company) was slightly injured.

In the meantime the gunman was apprehended, and the situation is under control. The injured personnel have been taken to hospital for medical treatment. Police and other authorities were immediately at the scene and are currently investigating the incident.

As soon as we have further details we will inform accordingly.
