Fuels
Our Fuels business produces and supplies essential resources, including fuels for road, air, and marine transport, and raw materials necessary for manufacturing products used in various industries and by consumers in everyday life.
We operate three refineries in Europe, located in Schwechat, Austria, Burghausen, southern Germany, and Petrobrazi, Romania, and hold a 15% stake in a refinery joint venture in the United Arab Emirates.
We also operate around 1,700 gas stations across eight European countries as well as a network of 1,200 eMotion fast and ultra-fast electric vehicle charging points across Austria, Romania, Slovakia, and Hungary.
Our strategy
Our aim is to increase the use of renewable and recycled feedstocks in the production of fuels and base chemicals, integrating our efforts closely with our Chemicals business.
This is one of the decarbonization measures set out in our Climate Transition Plan, which sets out the actions and interim targets supporting our ambition to become a net-zero business by 2050.

In addition to conventional fuels, our portfolio includes fuels produced from renewable feedstocks, which can be blended with or used in place of conventional fuels.

Sustainable aviation fuel
Sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) is a renewable alternative to conventional kerosene that contributes to over 80% lower carbon emissions over its lifecycle. Before it is used in aircraft, SAF is blended with conventional jet fuel. The resulting blend can then be transported and used through the same fueling infrastructure and airport systems that are already in place today. For SAF made from waste oils and fats (known as HEFA SAF), current industry standards allow it to be blended with conventional jet fuel at levels of up to 50%
Electric mobility
Our eMotion brand is accelerating the shift to electrification with a comprehensive network of fast and ultra-fast charging stations. We already operate more than 1,200 high-performance charging points and we’ve introduced charging for heavy-duty vehicles along key routes in Austria and piloted 2 locations in Romania.
Road fuels containing biogenic material
Our road fuel solutions are created to meet the needs of our customers today and tomorrow. This includes road fuels containing biogenic material from renewable feedstocks like plants and waste.
Synthetic Fuels
We’re working hard to create next-generation e-fuels and are planning to develop a novel process technology that will transform eMethanol into eSAF.
