OMV and Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas develop cooperation
OMV and Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas sign a Memorandum of Understanding on further scientific, technical and academic cooperation.
The document was signed by Johann Pleininger, OMV Board Member Upstream and Deputy Chairman of the Executive Board, and Prof. Victor Martynov, Member of the Gazprom Board of Directors and Rector of Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas.
The agreement addresses the possible implementation of joint educational and research projects and programs, organization of various trainings, seminars, workshops and other events for the faculty, employees and specialists of partners in the oil and gas sphere.
“In the era of the fourth industrial revolution, the development of any industry, including oil and gas, is only possible in close cooperation between business and large educational, scientific and technical centers. I am glad that we have such a partner in Russia in the form of Gubkin University, with whom we already have links going back several years involving joint science, technology and educational programs”, said Johann Pleininger.
“The development of an international cooperation is an important part of the scientific and educational process for any university. We have been cooperating with OMV since 2016. Over the years, we have launched several research projects and a dual master's program with one of the leading Universities in Austria – Montanuniversität Leoben. I am sure that in the future we will have even more interesting joint projects that will contribute to the success of the oil and gas industry as well as enhancing the scientific, technical and academic interconnections between Russia and Austria”, said Victor Martynov.

Background
In October 2016, Gazprom, OMV, Montanuniversität Leoben (MUL), and the Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas (Gubkin University) inked the Agreement for scientific & technical cooperation and partnership.
The research initiatives cover areas such as efficient drilling technologies, saving energy, environmental protection, innovation and R&D management.
There are now seven joint working groups with 20 working items.
In addition, Gubkin University and MUL have launched a joint double-degree master program supported by OMV and Gazprom. This program has been offered since 2016 and two groups of Russian students have already joined the program.
