IMO2020

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) is the global standard-setting authority for the safety, security and environmental performance of international shipping. With 1 January 2020, IMO has introduced a new regulation to reduce marine pollution, which requires vessels - with some exceptions for scrubbers - to use fuel with a maximum Sulfur content of 0.5%. This so-called IMO2020 regulation is a turnover to a greener future of the industry.

With the first delivery of our OMV VLSFO 0.5S already in October 2019 we proved that we are more than well prepared to offer you a very low sulfur fuel oil (VLSFO) with 0.5% sulfur content in line with the maritime fuel standard ISO 8217:2017.

Our OMV VLSFO 0.5S sulfur marine fuel development process was supported in close cooperation with MAN, based on 4-stroke engines.  Additionally, the fuel was tested in specialized laboratories and obtained maximum scores on key indicators, being included in the general picture of all OMV fuels where the quality is recognized and followed-up on day by day. It is produced in our Schwechat and Petrobrazi refineries and made available in the port of Venice, Triest and Constanta.
