Green Hydrogen

The multi-talent of the energy transition

The use of green hydrogen as an energy carrier and sustainable raw material in refinery processes is multifaceted. Green hydrogen is essential to achieving OMV's climate targets and to significantly reducing the carbon footprint of its products.

Production and supply of green hydrogen

The element hydrogen has the highest energy content per kilogram of all energy carriers available to us. It is colorless, odorless and non-toxic. It is obtained from the water molecule H2O by means of electrolysis. However, hydrogen only becomes truly sustainable and green when renewable energy is used during electrolysis.

OMV, together with Kommunalkredit AG, is investing EUR 25 million in a green electrolysis plant to produce up to 1,500 tons of green hydrogen annually, making an important contribution to the decarbonization of the industry.
