Today, OMV published its 13 Sustainability Report. It describes which aspects with regard to environmental, social and governance issues are most material to OMV as well as the achievements and progress made in the year 2017.
Within the framework of the new strategy the Executive Board reviewed the sustainability definition and defined five focus areas in 2017. Sustainability for OMV means creating long-term value for customers and shareholders by being innovative and an employer of choice. OMV conducts its business in a responsible way, respecting the environment and adding value to the societies in which it operates.
The five new focus areas are:
- Health, Safety, Security and Environment
- Carbon Efficiency
- Business Principles and Social Responsibility
Additionally, the process to define long-term targets for these focus areas has been started in 2017 as well.
Further highlights in 2017
With regard to safety, OMV achieved a decrease of 15% in the Lost-Time Injury Rate. OMV once again achieved the CDP Climate Change score “A–” (Leadership), placing it among the top 13 companies in the global energy sector. In 2017, more than half a million people across 17 countries benefited from 205 social initiatives in the areas of education, self-employment or basic infrastructure, united by the common goal of contributing to a better life.

OMV is a signatory to the United Nations (UN) Global Compact and the Sustainability Report also serves as the Communication on Progress for the UN Global Compact. The projects and Key Performance Indicators are assessed with regard to their contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) defined by the UN General Assembly in 2015.

OMV is producing and marketing oil and gas, innovative energy and high-end petrochemical solutions – in a responsible way. With Group sales of EUR 20 bn and a workforce of around 20,700 employees in 2017, OMV Aktiengesellschaft is one of Austria’s largest listed industrial companies. In Upstream, OMV has a strong base in Romania and Austria and a balanced international portfolio, with the North Sea, the Middle East & Africa and Russia as further core regions. 2017 daily production stood at approximately 348,000 boe/d. In Downstream, OMV operates three refineries with a total annual processing capacity of 17.8 mn tonnes and more than 2,000 filling stations in ten countries as of year-end 2017. OMV operates a gas pipeline network in Austria and gas storage facilities in Austria and Germany. In 2017, gas sales volumes amounted to 113 TWh.
