In Yemen, OMV provides much needed medical support to local community members through its clinic and health team located in Block S2 at the Shabwa Governorate.

Our health clinic is open to the local communities, providing essential medical support in the very remote areas where we operate. Local communities can also use our 24/7 emergency medical and ambulance services in case of emergency situations, e.g. heart attacks, animal or insects bites, road traffic accidents, and other.

On average, over 100 local community members benefit from the OMV clinic on a monthly basis. OMV Yemen health team continuously reviews the clinic standards, performing necessary refurbishments/updates when required to ensure dependable quality and service.

Description

Yemen´s tragedy and a small glimmer of hope:

Yemen’s ongoing civil war since 2015 has brought a steady deterioration of humanitarian conditions. Over half of Yemen’s health facilities are no longer functional and the worsening of living conditions has had a devastating effect on the population.

Hence OMV Yemen is committed to support medical care in its operational area of Block S2, Erma District Shabwah Governorate, a nomadic and remote district as part of its community development program and commitment to human rights.

OMV has therefore funded a fully functional Emergency Ward at AlMafood Hospital in Erma District including the Emergency building itself, an integrated solar power system as well as essential emergency equipment and furniture.

AlMafood hospital serves approx. 18,700 people in the district and is located around 45 km from the Block S2 field. The emergency services provided by AlMafood Hospital are the only ones of their kind at a mean distance of 120 km from the nearest General Hospital.

The official award ceremony will take place in March 2018 at AlMafood Hospital in the presence of Shabwah´s Governor Ali bin Rashid al-Harthi.

OMV envisages that the Emergency Ward contributes to the enhancement of referral health services in the neighboring areas in the long term. This will also improve medical services within the adjacent areas of OMV’s operations.

Objectives

  • Improve the health of newborns and women in the neighboring areas to OMV operations.
  • Contribute to the enhancement of maternal health services in the neighboring areas in the long term

Description

OMV Yemen is committed to support the local development in the operational area of Block S2, Erma District, Shabwah Governorate. In coordination and consultation with local stakeholders, OMV continues its support in the field of health, water, education, energy, etc.

OMV has funded a three year vocational education program in the field of midwifery offered by the Health Institute in Ataq - Shabwa Governorate. This has been done in partnership with local stakeholders and in line with the health plan for the provision and support of obstetrics and gynecology basic services in the district. Ten females from the Erma District have now graduated from a three years midwifery course and have become certified community midwives. We envisage that the services of trained midwives will improve in the field of obstetrics and gynecology. This will also help reducing maternal mortalities in an area with very high mortality rate.
