Access to basic services

We’re committed to ensuring that essential services such as health care, clean water, electricity, food access, and infrastructure are available to everyone.

This commitment aligns with several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically:

  • SDG 1: No Poverty
  • SDG 2: Zero Hunger
  • SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being
  • SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation
  • SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy

Projects

Our projects in this area are focused on promoting health and wellbeing in the communities where we operate. Below are some examples of how we are putting this commitment into action.

Emergency Aid for the Austrian Red Cross

The last years brought unprecedented challenges, and the Red Cross was at the forefront of the response, delivering emergency aid and essential services across the country. To support the Austrian Red Cross in this vital work, we donated fuel cards, enabling their teams to stay mobile and reach those in need.

This initiative supports SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being).

Die Tafel Österreich

Die Tafel Österreich is Austria’s longest-standing social and environmental association, dedicated to providing healthy food for people in need and reducing food waste.

We’ve partnered with them to support their mission of ensuring surplus food reaches those affected by poverty. Our collaboration includes volunteering opportunities for OMV employees, who contribute by preparing meals for underprivileged children and assisting with food deliveries. Deliveries are made using OMV-branded compressed natural gas trucks, helping to reduce CO2 emissions.

This partnership reflects our commitment to responsible resource management and supports SDG 1 (No Poverty) and SDG 2 (Zero Hunger).

Ōpunake Community Pools

The Ōpunake Community Pools in Taranaki, New Zealand, are a central part of local life, providing a venue for swimming lessons, exercise classes, school outings, and community events. Generations of local residents have learned to swim at these pools, making them an integral part of the community and a hub for recreation. Our support helps cover operational costs, allowing the pools to stay open longer each year and continue offering essential swim safety services, including free lessons for children in need.

This project supports SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being).

Otupaiia Marine Park Development

The Otupaiia Marine Park in Waitara, New Zealand is a much-loved coastal area where people have gathered to fish and enjoy the coast and river for generations. The New Plymouth council and the Te Kōwhatu Tū Moana Trust, in collaboration with Waitara residents and (subtribes of the Māori people), are leading a project to rejuvenate the park. Since the park is close to our Pohokura gas field, we wanted to contribute to this community effort by funding the construction of a bike pump track. In this way, we’re helping to create a space that will benefit both locals and visitors for generations to come.

This project aligns with our commitment to improving the lives of people in the communities where we operate and supports SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being).

Waimanako Support Hub

The Waimanako Support Hub in Taranaki, New Zealand, is a safe space for the community, providing a range of offerings, including for whānau (families), a creative hub, support groups, workshops, life coaching, and outreach support. We supported the expansion of the Hub by funding the lease and renovation of additional premises, allowing it to serve more people in the Taranaki community.

This project aligns with our commitment to community development and supports SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being).

Bellyful Frozen Meals

Bellyful is a New Zealand organization that cooks and delivers meals to families with babies or young children that are in need of support. Their simple but impactful approach makes a real difference to the well-being of new families who may not have others to provide this help.

With 25 branches across New Zealand, Bellyful brings together families, volunteers, local businesses, and supporters to create a strong sense of community.

Our work with Bellyful supports SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) and SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being).

On The House

On the House is a New Zealand charitable trust that rescues surplus food and redistributes it to people in need across the Taranaki community. In addition to addressing hunger, food rescue helps reduce waste, creating positive social, environmental, and cultural benefits.

For every kilogram of food rescued, at least 2.6 kg of carbon emissions are saved, and for every NZD 1 spent, the social return on investment is at least NZD 4.50.

This initiative aligns with SDG 2 (Zero Hunger).

Flourish Taranaki

Flourish Taranaki is a charitable community collaboration dedicated to helping Taranaki whānau (families)access resources that make parenting a little easier. Our partnership with Flourish Taranaki enables them to hire a part-time administration assistant, which is essential for the smooth running of their day-to-day activities. This support also allows them to expand their services, reaching more families across the community and advancing their mission to ensure every Taranaki family has access to the support, connection, growth, and play they need to thrive.

This project aligns with our commitment to community development and supports SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being).

CAPE 10 - House of good hope

The House is a hub for community connection and social development. Opened in 2020 in Vienna, it is a space where different social groups can come together to learn from and support one another. CAPE 10 is connected to the charitable CAPE 10 Foundation, alongside the Max & Lara project and the emergency aid project Initiative for sick and poor children.

CAPE 10, the organization behind the project, focuses on health and the fight against poverty. As one of CAPE 10’s main partners, we supported the construction and equipping a low-threshold medical and social clinic for uninsured women and children.

In 2024 in the first large-scale innovation summit, 400 pupils from Vienna's neighborhood secondary schools were able to learn about interesting aspects of the topic ‘Our future’. With the Innovation Summit, we are specifically focusing on the areas of youth, education and social integration.

This partnership also creates opportunities for OMV employees to engage in social volunteering.

This project aligns with our commitment to community development and supports SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being).

Improving Social Services in Libya

Since 2017, we have been working with other oil companies to improve social services for local communities in Libya. Our efforts focus on two key regions: Sirte and Murzuq. In the Sirte Region, we collaborate with the National Oil Corporation (NOC). In the Murzuq Region, our work is in partnership with NOC, Repsol, Equinor, and Total, and aims to help local municipalities improve essential services such as health, education, water, and sanitation for the local population.

This initiative supports several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation).

Together from Day One & First Step to Health

Through the OMV Petrom Foundation, we support several key early health initiatives in Romania. Through the ‘Together from Day One’ program, the foundation invested EUR 1 million to equip 45 maternity wards and neonatal units across 28 counties. This initiative has improved neonatal care for over 20,000 newborns, contributing to a reduction in infant mortality.

The foundation also launched the ‘First Step to Health’ project, which equipped 39 family practitioners’ offices to provide improved prenatal care to 7,000 pregnant women. Additionally, the foundation invested EUR 1.58 million in the Baby Box program, which provides essential support and health information to 2,713 mothers and newborns in vulnerable situations.

These initiatives contribute to improving health outcomes for vulnerable populations, supporting SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being).
