Romania Eficienta

OMV Petrom endorses the “România Eficientă” program aiming to promote energy efficiency through deep renovation of public buildings and public awareness campaigns.

  • Start: 2019
  • Country: Romania
  • Partners: Energy Policy Group (EPG), National Regulatory Authority for Energy (ANRE), Polytechnic University of Bucharest (UPB), Romanian Standards Association (ASRO)
  • OMV Focus Area: Business Principles and Social Responsibility
  • Supported UN Sustainable Development Goals: 7 – Affordable and Clean Energy, 11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities

Objectives

  • To contribute to the development and consolidation of a culture of energy efficiency in Romania
  • To increase the energy efficiency of buildings owned by the Romanian State through education programs
  • To implement a feasibility study that will generate functional, technological and constructive solutions in order to have a quantified description for buildings owned by the Romanian State, where concrete works to increase energy performance will be carried out

Description

Romania Eficienta is a comprehensive multi-annual education, information and public awareness program on energy efficiency in buildings.

Activities

  • Raise awareness and create a culture in energy efficiency through public campaigns and educational programs
  • Implement an integrated educational, information and public awareness program and to develop policy recommendations for the decision-makers on energy efficiency.
  • Improve energy efficiency of 5 buildings owned by the Romanian State and energy audits.

Background

Over 80% of the buildings in Romania were built before the 1990s and therefore have a low energy performance. Yearly consumption often ranges between 180 and 400 kWh per sqm. With extensive renovation, energy consumption can be reduced by 40% to below 100 kW per sqm, which can not only lead to significant savings but also a positive impact on the environment.

As the largest player on the Romanian energy market, OMV Petrom endorses the Energy Policy Group (EPG) “Romania Eficienta” program. The program aims to promote energy efficiency at the national level, through public information campaigns, education programs and financing of projects aimed at improving the energy efficiency of public buildings. OMV Petrom will contribute EUR 4 mn to this program in the period 2019-2022.
