With the beginning of the 2021 festival season, OMV will be the new main sponsor of the Grafenegg Festival in Lower Austria. The music festival, founded in 2007, attracts more than 60,000 people to the impressive castle area every year. Under the artistic direction of Rudolf Buchbinder, it has quickly developed into one of the most important and biggest orchestral festivals in Europe.
The architectonically and acoustically impressive open-air stage “Wolkenturm” serves as the main venue. Prelude concerts, introductory events and readings take place at the concert hall “Auditorium” and the historic indoor riding school.
This year's program highlights include concerts with Jonas Kaufmann, Anna Netrebko and Yusif Eyvazov as well as the big festival finale with Rudolf Buchbinder and the Vienna Philharmonic. Another special feature of the Grafenegg Festival is the annual composer in residence. He composes a work commissioned by the Grafenegg Festival and then premiere it at the festival. The "Tonkünstler-Orchester Niederösterreich" plays as Orchestra in Residence.
The new partnership was officially announced at the closing concert on September 6, 2020 by Rainer Seele, CEO OMV, Johanna Mikl-Leitner, governor of Lower Austria and Rudolf Buchbinder, Artistic Director of the Grafenegg Festival
“The unique atmosphere, the special architecture and the absolute top quality of the numerous international artists ensure unforgettable moments in Grafenegg. This unique combination has made the Grafenegg Festival one of the most important orchestral festivals in Europe within just a few years. We as Austria's largest industrial company are therefore very pleased to be a partner and sponsor of the Grafenegg Festival.” Rainer Seele, Chief Executive Officer, OMV Aktiengesellschaft
As the new main sponsor, we are looking forward to the beginning of the 2021 festival season.
