The Integrated Graduate Development (IGD) program prepares recent graduates for a dynamic future within Exploration & Production.
Since 2012, almost 700 graduates participated in our IGD program working in OMV Exploration & Production in countries such as Romania, Austria, Tunisia, Norway and New Zealand. Our graduates reflect the diversity of our business environment and representing around 30 nationalities.
What do I need to join the Integrated Graduate Development program?
- You have recently completed a Master’s/PhD in a technical discipline(Geosciences, Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, etc.)
- You have the ability for cross-functional and multi-disciplinary thinking
- You are looking for a career with international opportunities
- You are fluent in English and enjoy working in a team
What does the program involve?
- You will be employed as a Junior Expert and follow a 3-year development program including minimum 3 months of hands-on practical experience
- 70–20–10 learning approach: 70%: learning on the job; 20%: learning from others - with the support of a mentor and experienced colleagues; 10%: classroom-based learning for around six weeks per year in the first two years of the program
- You will work and grow in one of our seven technical E&P skill pools – Geosciences; Petroleum Engineering; Facilities Engineering & Maintenance; Operations; Projects; Well Engineering

When is the starting date?
There is no one fixed starting date for our IGD program. We regularly publish our vacancies via the OMV job board. You can either inform yourself there or simply sign up for our job alert – it will always keep you up to date.

Geoscientists drive and support the entire process from exploration and development, through to production. The work of a Geoscientist is highly interactive and interdisciplinary. We collect, integrate and interpret various data and observations and push technological boundaries to find and produce hydrocarbons (HC).

What are the core disciplines and typical activities?
- Exploration Geosciences: Evaluate new acreage; interpret multi-dimensional datasets; find and mature HC prospects for drilling; assess HC volumes and risks; locate and plan exploration and appraisal wells
- Reservoir/Production Geology: Evaluate and characterize reservoirs; provide static reservoir models; quantify, develop, and produce discovered resources efficiently; locate and plan development/production wells.
- Operations Geology: Perform well planning; ensure that all well objectives including high quality data acquisition are met efficiently; supervise and quality check contractors and well site geologist outputs; prepare well reports
- Geophysics: Plan, design, and supervise seismic acquisition programs and geophysical well operations; advise on and support tender processes; perform seismic processing and imaging projects or quality check contracted projects for maximum data quality and value; provide geophysical reservoir characterization and integrate with geological/petrophysical models for prospects, reservoir studies and field development plans
- Subsurface Data Management: Compile, organize, and distribute subsurface data (e.g. seismic data, well logs, spatial data, …) using OMV's main geoscience software and database solutions to support subsurface project teams in Exploration & Production globally; provide data management and application support for subsurface project teams throughout the project lifecycle

Our well engineers are responsible for all technical aspects of drilling new wells, and for the execution of well repairs like workovers and well interventions. These can be both rig-based and rig-less - i.e. coiled tubing, snubbing, wire line or slick line operations. Our key goal is to ensure effective and auditable planning, execution and close-out of well operations. In addition we provide governance and support for OMV’s non-operated well activities.

What are the core disciplines and typical activities?
Drilling: The main objective is to produce a quality, fit-for-purpose wellbore. This means drilling in accordance with agreed specifications, standard practices and procedures, and at a competitive cost.
This includes:
- Providing the technical input for contracting of rigs, equipment and services
- Designing wells and supervising their construction to the point where they are either ready for completion or plugged and abandoned
- Reviewing and executing detailed work programs for well testing operations
- Preparing and executing detailed work programs for running completions
Workover: The main objective is to improve productivity or to remedy defects on an existing well. This means managing the subsurface maintenance of a constructed well throughout its life by performing workover and/or well intervention activities. This can be executed with a workover rig or be conducted rigless (using coil tubing, snubbing, slickline equipment). Typical activities include:
- Providing the technical input for contracting of rigs, equipment and services
- Installing initial well completions
- Replacing tubing and/or artificial lift installations (well intervention)
- Performing well repairs (workover)

- Minimum 3 month ‘hands-on’ training on rigs and other auxiliary in-house services

OMV is making significant investments every year into Capital Projects. This way we shape the Group’s future success and growth. Facility Engineers from different disciplines ensure that these projects are engineered to enable safe and cost effective production.
During the operations phase maintenance engineers from different disciplines ensure that the surface facilities are maintained safely, reliably and cost effectively.

Operations is the backbone of OMV’s energy business. Our role is to ensure the reliability and safety of our plants, whilst maximizing production from reservoir to market - 24hrs a day, every day. The operations teams are involved at every stage of exploration and production. Whether you work on offshore platforms or at our onshore oil and gas production centers, you will be able to make your mark on our business.

Members of the Petroleum Engineering Skill Pool typically occupy a wide variety of positions within asset development, asset operations and petroleum engineering organizational units. Technical focus areas for Reservoir Engineers are Reservoir Performance, Reservoir Management, Reservoir Simulation and Portfolio & Reserves.

What are the typical activities?
Reservoir Engineers focus on integrating geoscience, well engineering and facilities data to understand the performance of hydrocarbon reservoirs and to optimize the economic recovery of hydrocarbons. Typical activities include:
- Estimating reserves and providing production forecasts for property evaluations, for development planning of new fields and for operational planning of producing fields.
- Carrying out reservoir simulation studies to optimize recovery of reserves
- Predicting reserves and production performance for single well proposals
- Predicting and evaluating waterflood and enhanced recovery performance
- Developing cost-effective reservoir monitoring and surveillance programs
- Performing PVT analysis of reservoir fluids
- Performing reservoir characterization studies
- Analyzing economics and performing risk assessments of development programs

What are the typical activities?
Production Technologists create value through production systems performance optimization as well as by developing solutions for well intervention in order to maintain or enhance the economic and safe production of hydrocarbons throughout the life of oil & gas fields. Typical activities include the following:
- Planning completion activities and analyzing completion performance.
- Planning and supervising stimulation activities (e.g. acidizing, fracturing, water shutoff, etc.) based on reservoir and well diagnostics.
- Designing and supervising application of sand control measures (e.g. gravel packing, frac packing, etc.)
- Designing and optimizing artificial lift installations (e.g. sucker-rod-pumps, ESPs, PCPs, gas lift, etc.)
- Designing tubulars as well as subsurface control and surveillance equipment
- Optimizing completion designs and operations
- Analyzing flow assurance issues and determining appropriate mitigation measures
- Managing production chemistry issues (e.g. scaling, hydrates, corrosion, wax, etc.)
- Optimizing production systems from the reservoir to the delivery point
- Planning and supervising well tests as well as analyzing pressure transients
- Preparing cost estimates for and determining risks of above described activities as well as establishing suitable mitigation measures to manage identified risks

Petrophysicists concentrate on studying the physical and chemical properties of reservoir rocks and their interaction with reservoir fluids. Typical activities include:
- Planning and supervising well logging activities as well as interpreting well logs
- Designing core analysis programs including QA/QC
- Interpreting and integrating information obtained from core analysis
- Designing and executing petrophysical studies
- Providing petrophysical data for and integrating petrophysical input data into static geological models and dynamic reservoir models
