OMV and Gazprom: Project sponsors of the Salzburg Festival 2021
The Salzburg Festival celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2020. It was founded in 1920 by poet Hugo von Hofmannsthal, theater and film director Max Reinhardt, composer Richard Strauss, head of the Wiener Staatsoper Franz Schalk, and set designer Alfred Roller.
The reason for this was that, according to Hofmannsthal, "Salzburg is the heart of the heart of Europe" and there was the hope that art and culture would heal the wounds of the First World War. This resulted in an unique artistic and economic success story.
Inspired by Max Reinhard's famous statement "The whole city is a stage", numerous anniversary productions and an extensive supporting program was planned in the city of Salzburg for this year's celebrations.
However, due to the current COVID-19 situation, the originally scheduled program had to be discarded, and for a certain time it was unclear whether the Salzburg Festival 2020 could even take place. The President of the Salzburg Festival, Dr. Helga Rabl-Stadler and her team, then developed a concept for a scaled-down festival with separate security requirements.
The Salzburg Festival 2020
The Salzburg Festival 2020 will now take place from August 1 to 30, 2020. In addition to the anniversary “Jedermann”, the program includes two operas, three theater productions and 53 concerts, as well as several side events.
The Salzburg Festival 2021
All productions of the anniversary program that will not be shown in 2020 will be part of the the Salzburg Festival in 2021. This concludes the anniversary celebrations.
