OMV Move & Help: Moving On With Reading

OMV continues its education program OMV Move & Help in 2011. With its partner organizations such as Caritas or the Austrian Book Club, OMV works to strengthen basic education. The focus is on the active reduction of functional illiteracy and severe reading difficulties as well as raising awareness of this subject among the public. In addition, the social, cultural and international diversity of the projects is to facilitate access to education.

“With OMV Move & Help we also want to work on equal rights in the education area. Education cannot be a question of origin, gender or social environment. That is why we consciously selected projects that also deal with this subject. Together with our professional partners, we want to draw more attention to this problem and provide real help with our actions,” explains OMV Director General Wolfgang Ruttenstorfer.

Caritas pilot project strengthens integration

The intercultural center for girls, *peppa, has been supported since the establishment of the education program OMV Move & Help. Young female immigrants from ten to twenty years old are provided with a meeting place as well as active learning aids, shared leisure activities and an intercultural dialog in this Caritas project in Vienna. The free library is stocked with around 300 books in seven languages and is greatly appreciated, as is the entire project.

International reading experiences are also evaluated by the jury and recognized with a total of four awards in the context of a reading gala event at the end of 2010.
In addition, the successful Book Club magazine Philipp was distributed to children and parents in an OMV Move & Help special edition for the registration in September. Among other subjects, the edition of 80,000 copies will deal with safety and health.
